 Visit to "Vivekananda Sevalayam"

A visit to “Vivekananda Sevalayam” located at Thirumurugan poondi, Tiruppur is organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering on 16.02.2020.  There are 16 students and 6 faculty members from all the three departments took part in the visit.

We have started from Jansons Institute of Technology by 10:45 am and went to Vivekananda Sevalayam located at Thirumurugan poondi, Tirupur.  About 30 kids from the classes III std. to XII std. were there. These kids were orphaned due to drug addicted and who did not took care of their home. Managing Trustee Mr.Senthilnathan, had received us and discussed about the need of value education and life skills for the today’s kids.  He had interacted with our students and gave lot of inputs on “Experience of real life”, the importance of Tamil language, social and self-responsibility etc.  He also explained our students that life is not so easy to live in and they need to learn from the society.

Later, Mr.P. Vignesh, III year Mechanical told a short story on unwanted desires in the life. Mr.M. Karthik, IV year Mechanical, Mr.Karthikeyan, IV year Civil and Mr. Vignesh conducted an activity and entertained the kids.

Lunch was served to all the kids and their care takers by 02.00 pm. Faculty members and students of JIT also joined them for the lunch.

A group photo was taken along with the kids. The Managing Trustee and Mrs. Jothilakshmi, Teacher thanked our management.

The student volunteers engaged them in various activities like games, throw ball etc. All the children looked so excited and joyful. Following the activities, Jansons management offered food to all the members of the home. At 2:45 PM all departed from the orphanage and reached college.

The Goodbyes were hard and left the Orphanage with a mixture of good feelings and sad emotions. The visit encouraged to do more for the needy and help them. It was indeed very satisfying experience for the students as they could bring smiles on children’s faces however for a brief period. They realized that one must contribute and understand his/her social responsibilities towards society.
